Limestone headstones
The limestone belt runs diagonally across England, from Dorset in the south-west up to Yorkshire in the north-east. The appearance of the limestone varies in colour and texture according to its geographical source and there are many beautiful varieties suitable for monumental work.
The varieties of limestone that I use to make headstones and memorials are Portland Limestone (creamy-white in colour with occasional shell detail) and Purbeck Limestone (also known as Purbeck Marble because it takes a polish and is heavily patterned with shells and fossils). I can source other white limestones such as Nabresina and Carrara Marble on request.
